.Net code is crazy slow compared to natively compiled code. To be perfectly honest, I love the hell out of C#. That is, the language C#, and not the runtime environments that are currently available. The runtimes (both win32 and mono) suck syphilitic ass, compared to say, C or even C++. It's small wonder that the Java crowd refuses to switch; they might be stuck in VM land themselves, but jumping from a leaky ship to a flaming ship won't help them any.

If (and I realize that this is a big "if") Vala manages to make 1.0, it'll tear the ground out from underneath C#, both .Net and Mono, at least in the Unixverse. It might not take that long - as soon as someone with a chunk of time and plenty of frusteration with mod_mono makes a mod_vala for Apache,  I can easily foresee a deluge of people dropping .Net and that stinkhole that we call Tomcat (ala .JSP) for clearer waters.

If anyone's interested, take a good long look at mod_wsgi for pointers on how a cleanly built interface works. This example might be handy, as well. I'd do it myself, but eh I don't have time right now. If someone doesn't implement it when I finally do get the time, well, I'll be working on it. :D
